Selous Marathon will officially be launched on 14th June 2025, by Morogoro Region Athletes Association Secretary Omary Kibukila.

ATHLETES who will battle it out in the forthcoming Selous Marathon, set to the place in Morogoro, will enjoy a full package of insurance cover in case of uncertainties during the race. Selous Marathon’s Organizing committee’ chairman, Iman Kajula, stated Dar-es-salaam at the launch of this season’s edition, which will take place in Morogoro on 23rd August 2025. "This year theme is "jiachie" goes hand in hand with Selous Marathon goal to provide running shoes to various running clubs in Morogoro Region  in our quest to support growth of running talents in Morogoro Region"  He said.

The event’s main race is 21km while its subsidiary events are 10km race and 5km fun race, according to the organizers. According to him, among the insurance services to be offered to participants include life insurance, accident insurance and disability cover to ensure the safety of the runners. Besides racing, other activities to be conducted on the day include planting trees around the Mount Uluguru area to protect the environment and water sources in community.

Kajula added that through the event, domestic tourism will enjoy a boost as athletes will be passing through various tourism attractions and places available in the region.
He further noted that the classic marathon is organized by a seasoned team with hand-on experience in event organization in the field of sports, conservation and tourism, and will take place in Morogoro municipality in August.

Selous Marathon is a prestigious town race that brings together people from within and outside Tanzania.
